Although a serious brain disorder, Schizophrenia is treatable. The illness is characterized by delusions, hallucinations, disturbances in thinking and withdrawal from social activity. The exact causes are still a mystery, but it is believed the disease is caused by a biochemical imbalance. The Schizophrenia Society of Canada is a national registered charity that has been in operation since 1979 whose mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by Schizophrenia and psychosis through education, support programs, public policy, and research.
